THE PERFORMANCE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL RUNNING
Running (Life) in Harmony with the Power of Nature
Running (Life) in Harmony with the Power of Nature
The Question: why do we run?
Might it not be, perhaps, because for the first time in 60,000 years, we are very nearly in danger of losing touch with our primal, powerful human-animal-ness? Because, indeed hopefully, there is one last tiny iota of instinct in us calling out that we are precariously close to becoming completely digitalized, consumerized automatons?
Running puts us in touch with the essence of things.
Learning to run melts away the insipid, banal artifice of the contemporary facade, re-energizing our core. Pushing through the boundaries of easy comfort strengthens every fiber of our character.
The “learning” involves simply knowing how to release the tensions that inhibit our natural movement.
Natural Running, from natural learning: tapping into the wisdom of our bodies, aligned with nature.
The natural running mindset is about freedom, exploration, instinct and intuition - and always and above all, humility and empowerment through harmony with and respect for nature.
It comes blazingly alive when we are out on the trails, but we can cultivate it anywhere. It is in all of us, waiting to be rekindled, filling us with the rich power of nature that is our birthright.
JD Hixson started coaching with world-class Scottish ultra runner and mountain athlete Donnie Campbell in 2018. In 2021, that became a coaching mentorship steeped in a natural approach to running gleaned from the Munros of Scotland, Iten and Mt Kilimanjaro in Kenya - terrains that forged Donnie’s Natural Running philosophy.
The Interesting Thing: it applies to so much else in life…
