Natural Running
“Barefoot, Minimalist, Chi, Pose - these types of running have become more popular
especially since the book Born To Run. For me they are all very similar
(if I am honest I would struggle to tell the difference between them!)
so I like to just refer to them as Natural Running”. — Donnie Campbell

Natural running can be seen in the great runners from terrains as diverse as Kenya and the hills of Scotland.
It certainly can be seen in the case of my own running mentor, the Scottish ultra runner and mountain athlete, Donnie Campbell, a veritable human ATV who, in fact, forged his craft on the Munros of Scotland and further honed it in Kenya, and whose approach to natural running I practice daily.
Whilst running craft is certainly about biomechanics and physical technique, it is much more.
It is a philosophy. An attitude. It is the art of tapping into the power of nature.
It’s about adventure and eschewing the comforts of modern living that dull our senses.
It is about challenging yourself and losing the ego to the love of the run and the terrain.
And it is about applying that wisdom of simplicity to the rest of our lives.
That is the craft - an integral attention to detail that embraces mind, body and the terrain.
Natural Running.
