Systema is a contemporary expression of an ancient spiritual warrior tradition based on the power of breathing.
The approach is based on non-aggression and neutralizing violence. Violence and aggression are the results of tension that always has fear, in some form, at its base.
By focusing on correct breathing and releasing all excess tension in the body and psyche, emotional stability and physical well-being are restored and optimized. The body, mind and emotions are all interconnected. Focusing on breathing is the singularly most effective tool for working on all three simultaneously.

Performance
Tension and negativity are performance enemies number one. Performance, in this context, is to be understood as the various meaningful actions we take in all areas of life. In further distinction, actions are to be thought of as different to activities, which are the mindless ruts and routines into which one can fall.
Through the Systema tradition of mind, breath and body training, we attain new levels of awareness, sensitivity and, finally, control over even the autonomic processes of the body.
When we truly begin to know, understand and experience breathing as the source of power, and that less tension equals more power, we become masters of our inner state, one of the four cornerstones of the Systema spiritual warrior tradition.
Healing
Tension equals weakness.
The body and mind break down at the weakest points. When we learn to identify and release tension through the various Systema breathing exercises and drills, we can fill ourselves with power, energy and regenerative force.
Illness manifests where there is stagnation, blockages and pent up negativity. When inner calm is restored to the mind and emotions, tranquility and freedom are expressed in the body.
Correct breathing is the foundation.

When we consciously learn to cease unconsciously restricting our breathing (check next time you feel stressed, annoyed or irritated) and allow our breath to permeate our entire body, we can then practice the Fundamental Art of Relaxed Breathing and apply the 7 Principles of Systema Breathwork to everything we do.
