Ultrarunning Coaching

UESCA-Certified | Humanising Performance | Endurance with Depth

Ultrarunning isn’t just a sport. It’s a discipline of becoming.

And to be very clear - I believe in the basics: technique is everything.  In running it means bio-mechanics.  Without a fundamental base, you are just dreaming. In music, there is no expression without technique.  In sport, there is no freedom of all-embracing expression without technique.  Deny this very reality and you are cheating yourself.

With this established, as a UESCA-certified ultrarunning coach, I work with runners who want more than a training plan. You might be chasing a personal best, building toward your first ultra, or simply seeking a deeper relationship with your own limits. Whatever the goal, my coaching is built around one core belief: performance is a humanising act: not something that strips us of our humanity, but something that helps us reclaim it.

My background is in high performance—but from a very different world. I trained at Juilliard and spent decades on the world stage as a performer. That experience taught me how to train under pressure, how to build presence through discipline, and how to cultivate a mindset that holds steady when things go sideways. These lessons carry directly into the way I coach runners: not as data points or machines, but as whole, complex, adaptable people.

What You’ll Get:
  • Personalised training plans tailored to your physiology, goals, and life outside running
  • Holistic performance coaching that includes breathing, mindset, and recovery
  • Emphasis on self-awareness, self-regulation, and long-term sustainability
  • Support for mental toughness and emotional resilience—tools that carry far beyond race day
  • Access to performance tools grounded in both elite coaching and human-centred philosophy

I draw heavily on what I’ve learned from two of the best in the business.

Paul Tierney, UESCA coach, former Dragon’s Back winner, and one of the most thoughtful minds in the endurance world, has shaped my understanding of mental toughness as more than just grit. From him, I’ve learned the value of emotional control, strategic adaptation, and the quiet discipline of turning up day after day.

Donnie Campbell, my friend and former coach, brought a fiercely grounded Scottish pragmatism to my early training. Donnie taught me to respect the terrain, both literal and internal, and to earn resilience through consistency. He also shared a trick or two about “Type 2 Fun.”

This isn’t “hustle culture” coaching. And it’s not just spreadsheets and splits.
It’s about real people doing hard things and becoming more human in the process.
