An ensemble of soloists in flexible formation. At the core, the instrumentation of Boulez’ Dérive 2 : c.a., cl, hn, mar, vib, hp, pno, vln, vla, vc.
A curatorial focus on classics of the contemporary classical music avant-garde as well as giving first local performances, in programs that reflect the extraordinary range of serious new music being written today.
Diversity and perspective are integral components of any healthy culture. Programming reflects the most vital present currents in all streams of contemporary classical music, neither ignoring nor fixating on certain roots found in the so-called Darmstadt School, represented by the work of Pierre Boulez, Bruno Maderna and Karlheinz Stockhausen together with Berio, Donatoni, Kagel, Lachenmann, extending to Birtwistle, Ligeti and Sciarrino, to name only a few.
